Founded in 1937, Neftchi Professional Football Club is the first professional football team in Azerbaijan. Until 1968, it was called Neftyanik. The club has several nicknames, the most popular and most used of which are "Neftchiler", "Flagman" and "Peoples Team". The representative of the capital, whose colors are "black and white", currently plays at the Bakcell Arena, which has a capacity of 11,000 spectators. PFC "Neftchi" 8 times (1992, 1995/1996, 1996/1997, 2003/2004, 2004/2005, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2012/2013) national championship, 6 times (1994/1995, 1995/1996 , 1998/1999, 2003/2004, 2012/2013, 2013/2014) won the national cup, and twice (1993, 1995) won the super cup. In 1966, he took third place in the USSR championship and won a bronze medal. In the 2012/2013 season, Neftchi made a first in the history of Azerbaijani football by qualifying for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. In 2006, he won the Commonwealth Cup.
